Yesterday, Baby Gurl called her dad in tears—she had left her wallet on the bus. 😳
We were all upset, and she asked—so hopefully, so naively—if she’d get it back. Not wanting to crush her spirit, I told her the truth: it was highly unlikely.
But later that day, a young man knocked on our door, loud enough to stir the babies.
“Can I help you?” I asked.
He said he was looking for AK.
Turns out, he had found her wallet on the bus—and he wanted to return it. Everything was still inside. Even the cash. He explained that the same thing had happened to him weeks ago, and he remembered how awful it felt.
Dad pulled out some cash to thank him. I couldn’t let him just leave either—we talked for a bit, and the more he spoke, the more he touched my heart. So I pulled the $20 from her wallet and gave it to him too. 😜
His name is Baxter. He’s 19, a student in New York—and the son of one of my co-workers. Small world!
That one act of kindness doused my cynicism and reminded me that goodness is alive and well. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Perkins, you should be proud. Your son has earned an honorary spot in our family. 😍
