Trooper Timothy Martin, finishing his shift at the Northampton Barracks, was on his way home when he saw a traffic slowdown on I-91 South. A very young fawn, likely only a week old, was in the road, shaking and in danger of being hit.

Some drivers had already stopped and were trying to soothe the frightened fawn, but it was about to run.

Trooper Martin immediately jumped in. Using his fast reactions, sharpened by dodgeball and inspired by his football hero, he grabbed the fawn just before it could run into traffic.

He gently carried the small animal to safety, near where its mother had been. The fawn paused, then ran off towards the fence, back in the wild.

The highway’s stress lessened. Drivers were happy, appreciating the quiet act of heroism.

Trooper Martin acknowledged the teamwork that day, noting the drivers’ help was crucial.

Sometimes, real heroism is subtle, involving bravery, kindness, and people stepping up when needed.
