Traveling from Salt Lake City to Minneapolis, I saw a woman being moved to a seat right in front of me after a simple mistake — likely reading the wrong boarding pass. She was visibly shaken, trembling, confused, and scared. Cruel comments echoed around her: “Addict,” “Tweeker.” As she opened her purse with shaking hands and started to cry, my heart broke. I nearly got up to help but paused, afraid I might startle her. I’m grateful someone else noticed — a kind stranger across the aisle who showed the compassion others failed to. It reminded me that while judgment is loud, kindness still shows up quietly.
