Tonight is the last night with our boy. This is Apollo. He would be 9 years old this December, but tonight is the last night my family and I will have with him. We’ve had to make the incredibly difficult decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge tomorrow.
Our sweet, sweet old man, a large Harlequin Great Dane, lost all mobility in his back legs this afternoon. There was no known trauma that we were aware of, but we believe his arthritis finally reached its limit, and a spinal injury must have occurred when he was either preparing to lay down or get up from one of his various sunbathing spots in the yard.
He has gifted us with innumerable happy moments during his life. He is the most gentle, loving, and vocal boy. Tonight, we make him as comfortable as we can and shower him with all the kisses, cuddles, snacks, and love that we absolutely can. He is our whole world. And while we will miss him with every fiber of our being, we know he will be running and playing and breathing easy in heaven. We will see him again one day.
