Today, I went out for lunch and noticed an elderly lady walking toward the door. I held it open for her, and she was so kind and thankful.
When we got inside, she told the waitress, “Table for one.” I paused for a second, then decided to walk over and ask, “I’m eating by myself too, would you like to join me?” She was delighted!
It turns out she had spent the last decade living with her mom, who recently passed away, and her aunt, who just moved into a nursing home. She’s been having a tough time being alone. We had a wonderful conversation, and she kept saying, “Thank you for listening to me,” which made me smile too!
This was honestly the best choice I’ve made all year! Her name is Delores, and from now on, we’ll be having lunch together every Thursday. 🥺
