“Today I cried at work. 💔
Not because I hate my job. Not because it’s too hard (though some days it really is).
I cried for a child.
He asked me, “When is the lady who puts food in my backpack coming?”
It caught me off guard. I told him I wasn’t sure since it was a short week.
He looked at me and said, “I’m out at home… I need more.”
So I asked what he liked most from the bag. Mac & cheese? Crackers? Spaghetti O’s?
He laughed and shook his head. Then he made a little circle with his hand and said:
“Those little O’s… we don’t have those at my house. But when I do, they give me a warm belly and help me sleep.”
Y’all… I lost it. Right there in front of 20 little kids. 😭
No child should ever have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. Ever.
And here’s the part that shows why teachers are some of the most incredible humans alive:
I sent a text to my coworkers. Within minutes, teachers pulled money out of their own pockets—not for classroom supplies this time—but to make sure this sweet boy had food. 🍲
We stocked him up on those little O’s.
And the way his face lit up when that bag went into his backpack? Worth every tear.
It won’t show up on a test score.
But does it matter? Nope.
Because THIS is what being a teacher is really about. ❤️
And the story doesn’t end there.
We’re starting a food pantry at school so no student ever has to feel the ache of hunger again. Kids will be able to get food whenever they need it.”
