“To the friends and family of this amazing woman…
My name is Jayden Spillman. I’m 14 years old. I have five siblings, and my parents are divorced.
The other day, after a doctor’s appointment, my mom and I were headed to the mall to pick out pageant clothes for a big competition. But on the way, everything changed in an instant.
Traffic slowed down on I-75 near the Turfway exit. Out of nowhere, a semi slammed into us from behind—shoving us straight into a tractor-trailer. We were sandwiched.
At first, I was confused. Then I saw my mom. Her face was covered in blood. She was screaming. My baby brother was crying in the backseat, but his door was jammed shut.
My phone was shattered on the floor, covered in glass. I tried to call 911, but it wouldn’t work. So I ran barefoot across broken glass, waving my arms and screaming for help.
And then, a kind man stopped. He got my baby brother out safely. By some miracle, he didn’t have a single scratch.
As for me, I had cuts on my feet and bruises from the seatbelt. I was crying, panicked, and completely lost.
Then—an angel appeared.
A woman pulled us into her car. She let me use her phone. She calmed me down, talked to me about pageants to keep my mind off the fear. She even had car seats in the back, so my baby brother could be safe.
When I asked her to stay and pray with me, she held my hands and didn’t let go until help arrived.
Meanwhile, my mom was airlifted to UC Hospital. Both her legs are broken—one needs a rod, the other will need surgery to rebuild her knee. She has two cracks in her spine and one in her neck. Doctors say recovery will take 4–6 weeks, maybe longer.
But my mom is a single mother of six. She works two jobs. She is a fighter.
And to that woman who stopped—
Thank you for being calm when my world was falling apart.
Thank you for letting me borrow your car seat.
Thank you for staying, for listening, for helping me hold on to hope.
You’ll never truly know the impact you made. You didn’t just help us—you changed me forever.”
