This is what love looks like.
A small, kind act can really brighten someone’s day. One Saturday afternoon, Officer Cameron Tucker from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department and his wife, Justine, were having an early dinner at a Zaxby’s restaurant in Deland, Florida. It was just a normal day and a quiet meal—until a young man walked up to their table. His name was Juan, a young African American college student. He politely asked the officer if he could pray for him, to help keep him safe. Cameron and Justine were surprised, but warmly said yes.
Juan gently placed his hand on Cameron’s shoulder and said a prayer for his safety in his tough line of work. Justine later shared the moment on Facebook, writing: “After crying my eyes out, we had a beautiful talk with this young man. He was full of faith and you could feel God’s presence around us. He said he felt something in his heart telling him to pray for Cameron.”
Juan is a football player at Stetson University, right there in Deland. He’s also part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In high school, he graduated with honors. The photo of him praying over Officer Cameron—taken by Justine—has now been shared over 25,000 times online and has received many touching comments. Juan’s grandmother, Berta O’Neil, said she was very proud of him. That photo showed just how powerful a young person’s kind action can be. Since that day, Cameron and Juan have stayed in regular contact.
