This is our firstborn, a 20-year-old who really surprised us when he chose not to return for his sophomore year of college because he wanted to work full time. He loves his job.
He was always an average student, though he did graduate high school with honors. Outside of academics, he was a hard worker—running cross country, track, and even bike racing. He’s always been an old soul and had a tough time with his roommates, close high school friends of his, who wanted to stay up late and party while he just wanted to go to bed early and get to work.
We tried to convince him not to work so much during college, but he truly enjoyed it. Now he’s working full time, bought his own truck a few months ago, and last night we got him under contract to buy his very own house. He has saved carefully, managed his money, and built up his credit. With help from his wonderful realtor (me), he beat out multiple offers and will become a homeowner before he’s even old enough to legally drink.
I’m so proud of him. I still hope he’ll take some business or marketing classes, but for now he is stepping into adulthood with responsibility and determination.
