That was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read, and it touched my heart ❤️
This is the incredible story of John Fox on the left and Jesse Rawls Jr. on the right. It is one of those rare reminders of just how kind and selfless people can be.
Here is what John shared about Jesse:
“I did something big this week. I gave the man next to me, Jesse, my left kidney. He jokes now that he’s a little bit bi-racial. Jesse says he feels like a new person and like he’s been given a second chance at life.
I didn’t even know Jesse Rawls Jr. before I made the decision to donate. But when I heard someone was in need, I felt it in my heart that I should step up and help.
It was worth every moment, and I would do it all again. The best part was seeing the hope back in his eyes and the smile that hasn’t left his face since.
I knew I was helping to save his life, but one of his family members told me I was actually helping the whole family too. His wife, his kids, his grandkids, everyone who loves him and wasn’t ready to lose such an important person.
If anyone has ever thought about donating, I’d be happy to share what it was like. In so many cases, you truly are saving someone’s life.
For me, it took almost a year of tests, hospital visits, emotional ups and downs, hard moments, and finally… the most amazing joy.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I should even share this story. But I realized if posting this inspires even one person to take that step, then it’s worth it.
Mr. Rawls once asked me, ‘Why did you do this when you didn’t even know me?’ I told him, I was raised to love my neighbor as myself. If you see someone in need and you can help, you help.”
The smile on Jesse’s face says everything words cannot.
If you have a transplant story or know someone who does, feel free to share it in the comments. 💚
