Screams from the woods broke the silence, and three lifeguards who had just started their shift didn’t stop to think.
They ran toward the noise, pushing through trees until they reached a fast, dangerous river. Eighteen-year-old Kaden Ross saw a woman struggling in the water and pulled her to safety — but then she gasped, “My boy’s under there.”
With help from another man, Kaden spotted the child’s small feet under the water. They pulled him out — limp, not breathing. Kaden gave two rescue breaths and began CPR until water came out of the boy’s mouth — the first sign he was alive.
While his teammates comforted the frightened mother, Kaden kept working until emergency crews arrived.
Both mother and son lived — because three lifeguards heard the screams, and ran toward them.
