On Wednesday in Alabama, a Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a man walking down the road with an oxygen tank. He soon learned the man was a Disabled American Veteran, trying to get from Jasper to Huntsville for a doctor’s appointment he’d been told he absolutely couldn’t miss.
With no transportation, he had set out on foot, hoping someone might give him a ride.
The deputy immediately stepped in to help. He drove the Gulf War Veteran as far as the Cullman County line, where a Cullman County deputy took over. From there, the man was handed off to a Morgan County deputy, and finally met by a Madison County deputy in Huntsville—who made sure he arrived safely at his appointment.
After an overnight stay, the entire chain of deputies came together again—this time in reverse—to escort him back home.
One veteran. Four counties. Countless helping hands.
We are deeply thankful for our Veterans, and it was an honor to serve this man who has already given so much for our country. 🇺🇸❤️
