Officer Comforts Grieving Woman
“Sometimes the people you least expect to help are the ones who show the most kindness.
Yesterday, my sister Barbie Henderson was driving back to her home in Clarksville, Tennessee from Louisville after spending time with our family. While driving, she got a phone call no one ever wants to receive — someone close to her was crying, and she instantly knew something terrible had happened.
She was so shaken by the news that she turned her car around and headed back to Louisville. She hadn’t gone too far and was near the Brooks exit. Overwhelmed with emotion, she realized she couldn’t drive safely. My sister called 911, and that’s when a Hillview police officer showed up — and everything changed.
Officer Nissen was more than just a cop that day. He was a kind human being who could see my sister was heartbroken after learning her sister had passed away. From that moment on, he cared for her like family. He sat with her as she cried, gave her water because it was a very hot day, and answered the phone whenever we called, keeping us updated until I arrived. When I finally got there, he wasn’t just standing nearby. He was sitting right beside her, comforting her — just like one of us would have done.
What an amazing person.
With all the bad news we sometimes hear about police officers, I want everyone to know that there are so many good ones out there. They do care. They are kind, thoughtful, and go above and beyond. I’m grateful for them — and so is the Barlow family.
I’m proud to live in Hillview!”
