In September 1944, Arnhem burned as only 60 British paratroopers defended Van Limburg Stirum School against overwhelming German forces. For four days they held their ground.
When the school finally fell, even the enemy recognized their courage. SS General Harmel told a wounded British commander: “You command very fine soldiers. Not even at Stalingrad have I seen such bravery.”
The Germans carried the wounded out of the flames with dignity and respect. True courage earns honor, even from those we call enemies. These men fought not just for victory, but for the enduring respect of history.
