“I was waiting in line at the airport when a spotless, shiny taxi pulled up. The driver, dressed neatly in a white shirt, black tie, and pressed slacks, jumped out, opened the door for me, and introduced himself:
‘My name is Wasu, your driver. While I load your bags, please read my mission statement.’
The laminated card read:
Wasu’s Mission Statement:
To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest, and most affordable way possible — all in a friendly environment.
The inside of the cab was just as impressive — spotless and organized. Then Wasu offered me coffee, soda, juice, or even a lassi from a cooler up front. He had magazines, a Bible, and even a list of radio stations to choose from. He checked the temperature, explained the best route, and asked if I preferred conversation or quiet.
Amazed, I finally asked, ‘Have you always treated customers like this?’
Wasu smiled. ‘Not always. For my first five years, I was just like the other cabbies — complaining about everything. Then I learned about the power of choice. You can either be a duck or an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles rise above and soar. I chose to stop quacking and start soaring.’
He explained how small changes led to big results: his first year as an “eagle,” he doubled his income. Now, customers book him directly because they love his service.
Wasu made a choice — and it changed his life.
Let’s all remember his lesson: Don’t be a duck. Be an eagle. 🦅
Thank you, Patti Huckaba, for sharing this beautiful reminder. 💕
