I was buying a newspaper near my office when an elderly man arrived looking for textbooks for class 6. The shopkeeper asked him many questions he couldn’t answer, so I offered help.
He told me the books weren’t for his own son or daughter, but for the child of a cleaning lady who works in his office. Because of the pandemic, students are learning from home, but she doesn’t have a phone for online classes. With exams coming, the girl hadn’t even seen her books and was upset.
When the cleaner shared this with the man, he made the decision to buy the books himself. Despite working in multiple offices, no one else checked on her or her children, yet this man stepped up.
This incident made me really happy. If you’re in a position to help, please do—small acts can change lives.
