I have a rule I’ve never told my kids: if they ever ask me to take a picture, I will always say yes—no matter how I look or feel. And when they show me the picture, I always respond with, “I love me!” or “I’m so pretty!”

I never talk negatively about my looks in front of them. Even with 30 extra pounds from pregnancy and breastfeeding, I refuse to speak poorly about my body. Saying yes to the camera, the mirror, and the spotlight is part of that choice.

After 6 years of practicing this kindness for my children’s sake, I’ve discovered the secret: it stops being an act and becomes your truth. Eventually, you believe the words you speak to yourself. ❤️
