“I don’t usually post this sort of thing on social media because it’s kind of icky to publicly pat yourself on the back for doing a good deed. But, this story has a twist.
I was chatting with a Vietnam Veteran in the parking lot of Walgreens on the corner of North Ave and Roosevelt in Battle Creek. I couldn’t help noticing he was skinny as a stick and his clothes were pretty worn. He didn’t ask me for a dime. He just wanted to see how my day was going.
After talking for a few minutes, I asked if he was hungry. His eyes lit up as he frantically shook his head yes. So, we walked over to Arby’s to get him something to eat. When I pulled out my card to pay for his meal, the young lady behind the counter stopped me and said it was taken care of. Wait, what? I stood there a little confused and dumbfounded for a second. She glanced up at his tattered Army Veteran hat, smiled, and said, ‘There’s no charge. Your order will be right up.’ 🥺
I wish I would’ve gotten her name, but all I remember is ‘Assistant Manager’ was printed on her badge. I don’t know if she will ever see this, but if she does, I hope she knows just how much of a positive impact her gesture had on the both of us! So, thank you again! ❤️
It’s been a crazy couple of years, folks. Be kind… always. Never miss an opportunity to be the chicken sandwich for someone else’s soul.”
