Hey there! I’m Dr. Megan Meier, a sports and dance medicine physician based in Oklahoma City, OK. Recently, a photo of me providing sideline coverage for my high school football team, Putnam City North, went viral! I just want to give a huge shoutout to everyone who has shown interest in me and, more importantly, in that photo.
I captioned it, “Sports Medicine Doctor Mom—this is what happens when you’re 35 weeks pregnant, your husband is out of town for the weekend, childcare for your 3-year-old falls through, and you’ve got a game to cover!” I shared this with a group of physician moms because I thought they’d appreciate a glimpse into our daily lives. The positive feedback and support from this group have been absolutely overwhelming!
I truly believe that it’s possible to have it all and achieve a great balance in a multi-faceted career and life, but it definitely requires hard work and a bit of improvisation along the way. Most importantly, it’s all about having a strong community that supports one another to make it happen. A big thank you to the “Physician Mom Group (PMG)” for understanding. I also want to express my gratitude to my family, friends, and colleagues for all the love and shares. And a special thanks to the teams I support—from PC North High School to the University of Oklahoma and the OKC Ballet. Your support for women (and their families) in medicine and sports means the world. We’ve made some incredible strides since 2016!
