Greg Nicotero’s Horror Reality Show Premiere Date Revealed

The release date of an upcoming horror reality show featuring The Walking Dead‘s Greg Nicotero has been revealed. Based on Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, Walking Dead ran for 11 successful seasons, chronicling a group of people trying to survive after the world had been overrun by zombies, who remain an ongoing danger.

One of the key figures behind the original series and its spinoffs is that of Greg Nicotero, the Emmy-winning special make-up effects creator who has been said supervisor for the franchise. Nicotero’s work expanded beyond the effects department as an executive producer of every Walking Dead show and primary director of the mainline series, helming 37 episodes.

Now, it’s been revealed that the first two episodes of Guts & Glory, a new horror-themed reality show, will premiere on Shudder on Tuesday, October 14. The show will also be available to stream on AMC+ in America and Canada on that same date. The show will be part of Shudder’s Season of Screams programming event. Before its new date, it had previously been announced that Guts & Glory would begin airing on September 9.

Guts & Glory is a competition reality show starring Nicotero that will force players to try to survive horror-influenced challenges. Those challenges are designed to force the players to overcome their fears while employing their intellect and skills to complete them. To continue in the show, which is sponsored by Hyundai, players must “survive the night.”

What This Means For Guts & Glory

In the history of the entertainment industry, there have been endless movies and shows that required makeup and special effects. The thing that casual horror viewers don’t realize is that a handful of artists have been responsible for many of the most legendary effects in movie and television history.

Some of those people are Tom Savini, Stan Winston Rick Baker, Lon Chaney, Howard Berger, and Screaming Mad George. Just like those legends, Greg Nicotero is one of those artists who has crafted endless special moments in horror history.

With his decades of expertise in memorably gruesome practical effects, Guts & Glory is sure to be an intriguing new take on the reality genre. Moreover, however, is that it also offers the still-niche platform of Shudder a new opportunity to break into a popular demographic in the reality competition field as the show joins its other genre title, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans.

Reality has often been a popular field, but the competition genre, in particular, has seen some immense growth on streaming in recent years. Whether it’s the highly-talked-about thrills of Peacock’s The Traitors or the endlessly-controversial Love Island franchise, Nicotero’s Guts & Glory could have the original idea needed to push Shudder further into the mainstream.

Our Take On Guts & Glory’s Premiere Date

Some people who are happy to watch horror movies and TV shows any day of the year. However, there are other people who are only interested in the genre in the days and weeks leading up to Halloween.

Due to that reality, there is a long history of studios releasing their top horror movies in the weeks before Halloween. For the same reason, it makes perfect sense for Guts & Glory to be premiering on October 14, just over two weeks before Halloween.
