Firefighters had been called inside the building, searching for trapped children or adults.
Amidst the chaos, Kevan recalled, I was searching, searching, searching… you see a crib and you start thinking the worst. Kids hide when they’re scared. You have to look everywhere. After confirming all residents were safe, he took a moment to rest.
Suddenly, he saw a woman rushing towards the burned apartment, holding her baby. Cool—she’s safe, he thought, relieved. As the mother assessed the damage, Kevan volunteered to watch her toddler. Despite the devastation, the little girl was cheerful, bringing a ray of light to the situation.
In a touching gesture, the child offered him her water bottle, recognizing his hard work. This moment was captured and shared on Facebook with the message: Every day may not be good, but there’s something good in every day. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in tough times, kindness and hope shine through.
