At 85 years old she decided it was time to spoil herself with something special. A night in a luxurious hotel. The next morning when she went to check out the receptionist handed her a bill for 450 dollars. She almost dropped it right there.
“This is ridiculous,” she said. “It’s a lovely place but 450 dollars for one night? I didn’t even have breakfast.”
The desk clerk politely explained it was the standard rate. She was not impressed. “I want to speak to the manager.”
The manager came out all smiles and said. “Our hotel has an Olympic size pool and a world famous conference center, all available for your use.”
“But I never used them,” she replied.
“Ah, but they were here and you could have,” the manager said. He went on to mention the top class entertainment shows the hotel hosted. “We bring in the best performers from around the world.”
“I didn’t see any shows,” she said firmly.
“Well they were available and you could have,” the manager repeated.
After a few minutes of this back and forth she gave up arguing. She pulled out her checkbook, wrote an amount and handed it over.
The manager looked down confused. “Madam, this check is only for 50 dollars.”
“That’s right,” she said with a playful smile. “I am charging you 400 dollars for sleeping with me.”
The manager’s eyes went wide. “But I didn’t.”
She winked. “Well you could have.”
Moral of the story. Never underestimate the sharp mind of a senior citizen.
