As I was heading out the door yesterday to meet my niece, I quickly snapped a photo of my kitchen sink. It reminded me of a valuable lesson my grandma taught me about 40 years ago when I was preparing for marriage.
Despite spending the last three decades of her life in a wheelchair, she had a remarkable way of looking at life. One day, as I helped her in the kitchen, she showed me a simple t-towel and pulled me over to her sink filled with dirty dishes. She covered them with the towel and said, “Never say no to a chance to go with Dennis, or to spend time with a friend, just because you have housework to do. Just cover your dishes with a t-towel. They’ll still be there when you get back.”
That advice stuck with me, and I found myself doing just that yesterday. There have been countless times when I’ve closed the door on a messy room or left dishes in the sink, prioritizing moments that matter more. Life is too precious to miss out on experiences over trivial chores. Sometimes, the tasks can wait!
