Ainsley Hastings, 9, from KS, rescued an Angus bull calf named JB. The calf was suffering from tetanus, a condition with only a 20% survival rate.

“When we got him, he was not even able to move off of his sides,” Kylie Hastings, Ainsley’s mother, commented. “He was very rigid. We had to hold his neck up manually to get him to eat.”

Ainsley’s father Caleb built a makeshift sling using old sawhorses and ratchet straps to keep pressure off JB’s legs while helping him build strength.

“Ainsley’s very stubborn, so we know whatever animal is in her care, she’s not going to give up,” Caleb commented.

After weeks of dedicated care including feeding, physical therapy, and strength building, JB made a remarkable recovery and is now walking. Ainsley has big plans for her new friend, possibly including 4H projects (hands-on youth learning) or keeping him as a pet.
