After wrapping up his recent day shift at the State Police-Northampton Barracks, Trooper Timothy Martin hopped into his cruiser and began his drive home on I-91 South in Holyoke. Suddenly, he noticed a traffic jam forming ahead of him. Curious about the situation, Trooper Martin decided to move to the front of the line to check it out.
To his surprise, he spotted a young fawn, likely just a week old, standing in the roadway. Several worried drivers had stopped to help the frightened little creature. Without wasting any time, Trooper Martin jumped out of his cruiser, knowing he needed to act quickly. The fawn could easily bolt across the median and into the fast-moving northbound traffic at any moment.
With a burst of energy reminiscent of his days as the captain of his high school dodgeball team and inspired by his favorite New England Patriot, wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, Trooper Martin sprang into action. The concerned drivers did their best to keep the fawn contained, and Trooper Martin swiftly took charge of the situation.
He successfully captured the fawn, ensuring it was safe. Trooper Martin then transported the little one to a secure spot off the highway, close to where he found it, so it could reunite with its mother, who had apparently jumped a high fence next to the road. Kudos to both the motorists and Trooper Timothy Martin for their quick thinking and teamwork!
