A couple of years ago, my husband and I were playing one of those silly couples trivia games. He asked me,
“What’s your favorite food in the world?”
Without missing a beat, I said:
“Chicken cutlets.”
No fancy sauces. No special prep.
Just thin, crispy perfection, fried in olive oil. Simple. Comforting. Delicious.🍗✨
He looked at me and asked,
“If you love them that much… why don’t you make them more often?”
I told him the truth.
I hate breading and frying.
It’s messy. Time-consuming. Just not my thing. 🙃
So he did something that still touches me to this day:
He asked me to teach him.
And then he practiced.
Over and over.
Some cutlets were too thick.
Some too salty.
Sometimes the oil was too hot, or not hot enough.
But he didn’t give up. 💪❤️
He figured out his own little system.
And now?
There is no chicken cutlet on earth better than his.
And here’s the part that really gets me:
On days when I’m overwhelmed…
When the kids have needed everything from me…
Or when I’m just tired down to my bones…
He quietly gets out the flour, the eggs, the breadcrumbs.
He slices, pounds, and breads the chicken.
And makes me the most perfect cutlets, topped with a little sprinkle of fresh Parmesan. 🧄🍽️🧀
Because sometimes love is a ring.
Sometimes it’s a wedding, or a kiss, or a grand gesture. 💍💋
But sometimes..
Love is a chicken cutlet.
