Tesla robotics technician Peter Hinterdobler is suing for $51 million after a FANUC robot arm unexpectedly released with an 8,000-pound force, knocking him unconscious at Tesla’s Fremont factory in July 2023.
His medical bills have already hit over $1 million, with another $6 million expected.
The lawsuit claims Tesla neglected to secure the robot during disassembly and withheld incident footage. This case follows prior robot-related injuries at Tesla facilities, raising fresh concerns about industrial robot safety.
Hinterdobler seeks damages from both Tesla and FANUC for pain, emotional distress, lost wages, and future medical costs.
