This evening, while I was sitting in my cruiser finishing a report, a woman walk…

This evening, while I was sitting in my cruiser finishing a report, a woman walked up and asked if she could talk to me. I stepped out and said, “Of course.”

The very first thing she told me was, “Your life matters to me.” She added, “I don’t see you as a white cop—I see you as human. We are all human, and we are all the same.”

Then she asked if she could give me a hug. I said yes.

I told her, “Your life matters to me as well.”

We ended up talking for about twenty minutes—not as officer and citizen, not as white and black, but simply as two human beings sharing a conversation.

Before she left, she handed me a small Bible and said, “I will be praying for you.”

Moments like this remind me that what we need most in the world is more compassion, more understanding, and more people like this woman. ❤️
