Today, I dropped our son Dashawn off at the mall, and as I was leaving, I caught a moment that made my heart swell with pride.
Dashawn, who’s just 13, was on his way to enjoy his last day of summer with friends when he noticed an elderly woman. Without hesitation, he offered his help. I watched as she handed him her bag of food and motioned for him to walk beside her—and in that instant, I knew exactly what was happening. My boy was making sure she felt safe and cared for.
A lady nearby even stopped with tears in her eyes to compliment him. To say we’re proud of the young man he’s becoming would be an understatement.
Dashawn lost his father when he was just a baby, but thanks to his incredible mother Nicky and grandparents, Kiwanis and Charlie, he was raised with the values of respect, kindness, and compassion for others—especially the elderly. From the moment I met him four years ago, I knew he was special. He’s always gone out of his way to help those less fortunate, never needing to be asked.
It truly takes a village, and our village is beyond proud of him. Nobody more than his mom, who has poured so much love and guidance into him. ❤️
We’re blessed to witness him grow into the kind, thoughtful, and caring young man he is today. Keep shining, Dashawn. The world needs more hearts like yours. 🌟
