This is Dr. James Sebesta. He is a surgeon, but more than that, he is a man with an incredible heart.
The night of the Vegas concert, when the unthinkable happened and shots rang out, his first instinct was to look at his wife. He told her to get to safety with their friends and promised he would meet them back at the hotel. While others were running away, he was preparing to run straight into the chaos.
He decided in that moment that his role was not to escape, but to help. With fear all around and lives hanging in the balance, he went from person to person, stopping bleeding where he could, carrying the wounded to safety, and even carrying those who did not survive off the field with dignity.
Fifty eight lives were lost and over five hundred were wounded that night, but Dr. Sebesta gave everything he had to bring comfort, care, and hope in the middle of it all.
He could have left. He could have chosen safety. Instead, he chose compassion. He chose courage. He chose to be what we all needed most in that moment, a good person.
Dr. Sebesta is not just a surgeon. He is a hero.
