A few hours ago a man showed up at my yard and asked if he could cut my grass for a price. I told him I didn’t have the money today and asked if he could come back next week.
Not long after, I heard the sound of a mower outside. I opened the door and there he was cutting my grass anyway. I rushed out to tell him to stop but he shook his head and said he noticed my kids playing in the yard and was worried about snakes hiding in the tall grass.
I told him again that I could not pay him. He smiled and said he didn’t need any payment. He has grandchildren of his own and just hopes that if they were ever in need someone would show them the same kindness. I could not hold back my tears.
We stood there sharing stories about life and its struggles. He said these are the kinds of moments you will never see on the news because it does not make money for the networks. I told him he has such a good heart and that this world would be a better place if more people were like him.
We hugged twice that evening. And even now as it’s grown dark he is still outside cutting my grass. I am so grateful for this man. His name is Johnny from Taylors South Carolina. Tonight he gave his time and his kindness freely just to keep my children safe.
People like Johnny truly deserve to be recognized.
