Today my heart was reminded just how much kindness still exists in this world. While shopping at Aldi with my kids, I happened to run into my mom. When we walked out to the parking lot, I noticed a little crowd gathered around her car. Just then I heard a faint meow and my mom called out, “I need your help!”
A tiny kitten had crawled out from her engine and was clearly frightened. It was in the 80s and several people were already on the ground trying to coax it out. In true kitten fashion, it shot away like lightning and tucked itself deep inside the engine of a nearby hybrid.
For the next half hour we all tried everything we could think of. We offered tuna, cat food, water and gentle voices, but the little one refused to come out. The owner of the car even grabbed his tools to help us. After carefully tracking its movements, one man wearing gloves finally managed to reach in and pull the kitten to safety.
The moment he held it, everyone let out a cheer of relief. The kitten was given water and placed in a cool truck while we all stood there smiling. By then, there were at least ten of us working together, laughing and calling it the “Aldi kitty.” In the process, more than five cars and even an RV stopped to check if we needed help, thinking it was car trouble, and every single person offered with genuine care.
I am beyond grateful for every single soul who showed love and compassion for that little kitten today. ❤️😻
Update: The kind man who rescued it has already found the sweetest loving home for our brave Aldi kitty.
