I don’t know who this young man belongs to, but I spotted him riding with a fishing pole sticking out of his backpack. I pulled up ahead of him and when he came by I asked if he liked to fish. His very first words were “Yes sir.” I asked what he fished for and he told me bass. I asked if he knew how to use a bait caster and again he said “Yes sir.”

Right then I reached in my console and pulled out a Lews reel. It cost me about eighty dollars and I had only used it a handful of times. I handed it to him and you should have seen the look on his face. He said “Man this is a nice one too.” He was so excited that I told him to hold on and wait right there. I ran back to the house and grabbed my Lews Mach 2 reel and rod.

When I got back he had already taken the reel and his tackle home for safekeeping. I jumped out of the truck and told him I had something else for him. I handed him the rod and reel combo and he immediately called out the name of it and told me he knew it was expensive. His excitement was priceless. He looked at me and said “Thank you so much sir. Fishing brings me joy and inner peace. It keeps me out of trouble.”

I told him that is exactly why I wanted him to have it. Keep fishing kid. 💙🙏🏾🫡
