On Christmas Eve, 1971, Juliane Koepcke’s plane tore apart above Peru’s rainforest. Still strapped to her seat, she plummeted nearly two miles to the jungle below and somehow survived.

Alone, wounded, and barefoot, she followed a stream through the jungle for 11 agonizing days. She drank muddy water, ate what little she could find, and fought through infection and maggots in her wounds. With broken bones and no one to help her, she pressed on, refusing to give up.

Finally, exhausted beyond words, Juliane stumbled upon a group of loggers who saved her life. Out of 92 passengers, she was the only survivor. Her story remains one of the most remarkable tales of human endurance and courage ever told.
