I was just doing my job when I met a very special customer, Bishop Eusebio Phelps. He came in for a tasty breakfast, and we started talking. Little did I know, this conversation would change my life!
As we talked, I told Eusebio that I was pregnant with my second child, a baby boy I planned to name Samuel. When I said the name, Eusebio’s face lit up. He shared that his son, also named Samuel, passed away seven years ago.
Touched by our connection, Eusebio wanted to help me. He left a generous $40 tip, but he didn’t feel that was enough. So, he and his wife decided to raise $1,000 for me and my family.
Eusebio posted our story on Facebook, and by the next morning, they had already met their goal! He was so excited about the support that he raised the goal to $3,000, and that was reached quickly too.
Eusebio then planned a surprise baby shower for me at the Waffle House. I had no idea this was happening! They even raised the goal to $10,000 while waiting for me to drive there. When I arrived, they were thrilled to give me $12,000! Plus, Eusebio’s church offered to pay for Samuel’s childcare for an entire year.
“I’ve been really stressed lately,” I said. “I’ve been worried about the baby coming… I’m so grateful. That’s all I can say. God is good all the time.”
What’s truly amazing is that I never told Eusebio about my struggles. Our bond just happened through kindness and our shared connection to the name Samuel. Eusebio later said it was “a chance encounter but an appointed, ordained, and predestined moment.” ❤️
