At the coffee shop, I noticed an elderly couple sitting quietly with their granddaughter. It felt like an ordinary day—until the little girl walked back inside holding the hand of a homeless man.
No one said a word. Neither I nor my manager stopped her. We just watched as the scene unfolded. She went up to the counter, ordered him a sandwich and a coffee, and then—most beautifully—served it to him with her own hands.
The entire café fell silent, yet every heart in that room was speaking the same thought: Why can’t we all be a little more like her? Smiles began to spread across faces, and the air felt lighter, warmer.
As she left with her grandparents, I stopped her for a moment. I handed her a small stuffed toy and a note that simply read: “Thank you for teaching us what kindness looks like.”
