I was working as a salesman at a kids’ clothing store when I noticed a mother staring at a little dress with tears in her eyes. I walked over and asked, “Ma’am, can I help you?” She quickly brushed it off, saying, “Oh, sorry, nothing.”
At that moment, her little girl tugged my hand and said with a bright smile, “Hi, wish me happy birthday! Today is my birthday.” I wished her warmly. In that instant, I understood—the mom couldn’t afford the dress her daughter loved.
As they were leaving, I quickly ran to them and handed the little girl the very same dress. The mother hugged me tightly, her eyes full of gratitude, and left.
A year passed. I had almost forgotten about that day, until the same mother returned to the store. With tears in her eyes, she handed me a packet of t-shirts and said, “Son, I’m back on my feet now. I collected these for you.”
We both hugged each other. A small act of kindness had come full circle.
