This afternoon I took my 4 year old Caden to Hy-Vee for a few groceries. On our way out I picked up some carnations for him to hand out as people were leaving. He loves doing little acts of kindness, and it’s always such a joy to watch.
Before long the store manager, Jamie Stephens, came over and asked if we would like some more flowers to give away. Of course we said yes. It was so thoughtful and unexpected, and Caden couldn’t have been more excited. A couple of people were even so touched they handed us a dollar to buy more flowers.
As we were walking back to the car, Caden looked up at me and said, “Mom, my heart is happy.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. Hopefully we helped a few other hearts feel the same today.
