This is a photo of Hachikō, a Japanese Akita dog celebrated for his remarkable loyalty to his owner.
Hachikō was the beloved companion of Professor Eizaburo Ueno, who lived in Shibuya and taught at Tokyo Imperial University in the early 1920s.
Each morning, Ueno would walk to Shibuya Station with Hachikō before boarding the train to work. At exactly 3 PM each afternoon, Hachikō would return to the station to greet him and walk him home.
But one day, Ueno suffered a fatal stroke and never came back.
Still, Hachikō continued to wait at the station every single day, for nine years, until he passed away in 1935.
