We live in a four-bedroom house. But this—right here—is us. Every night and every morning.
I used to resist it. I told the kids it wasn’t healthy, that they’d sleep better in their own beds, that the floor wasn’t as comfortable as their rooms. But it never worked. No matter what I said, they wanted to be right here.
Two years ago, I spent every night on the floor beside Rachel’s hospital bed. People told me to go home, to get some rest, that my bed would be more comfortable than a hospital floor. But it never worked. Nothing could convince me to leave her side. That was where I felt safe. That was where I needed to be.
Now I understand. It’s been almost two years since they lost their mom, and it’s clear—by my side is where they want to be. Just like me with Rachel, no words can convince them otherwise. For them, the safest place in the world is right here, on the floor, next to me.
Thank you, Brandon Janous, for sharing this powerful reminder of love ❤️
