In Chattanooga, Tennessee, during a major flood, an EPB communications technician named Troy Plemons turned into an unlikely hero. While caught in a traffic jam on Interstate 24, he saw an SUV being carried away by floodwaters. A woman was trapped inside, facing imminent danger.

Without a second thought, Troy plunged into the deep, rapidly flowing water to reach the car. Workers from Lawson Electric provided him with a tool, which he used to break the window. He then carefully pulled the woman from the vehicle, shielding her from the powerful current.

The rescue was fraught with peril, but Troy’s quick thinking and bravery saved her life. He later expressed his gratitude for being present when he was needed. His actions, along with those of other rescuers, demonstrated the courage and selflessness that emerge during natural disasters.
