Antonio La Cava, a resident of the Basilicata region in Italy, spent 42 years teaching children before he retired. He then dedicated himself to his love of literature and learning.

After his retirement, he turned his ‘Ape’ 3-wheeler van into a small library on wheels. Having witnessed firsthand how books can spark curiosity and inspire learning, he made it his mission to bring stories and knowledge to children in isolated villages in Basilicata.
+
Antonio usually stops in villages with fewer than a thousand people. He engages the locals and reads stories to the children, also giving books to those who might otherwise never own one.
+
Additionally, Antonio carries exercise books where children can write the first chapter of a story, which he then passes to the next village to continue the tale.

“I was strongly worried about growing old in a country of non-readers,” Antonio commented.
