Tanner was in the 8th grade when something terrible happened at school. Some mean kids grabbed his favorite shoes and shoved them into a toilet at school. When Tanner’s mom Meghan heard what happened, she felt her heart break into a million pieces. She felt powerless seeing her son come home in tears.
A high school senior named Skyler heard what happened. Even though they didn’t know each other well, Skyler felt that no kid should ever go through that. So he used his own money to buy Tanner a brand‑new pair of basketball shoes. Skyler walked up to Tanner’s house and knocked on the door. He was carrying the shoes in his hands.
When Meghan opened the door and saw Skyler standing there, she cried tears. The bullying had nearly crushed her son. She said, “This absolutely broke my mama heart.” Skyler’s kindness gave them a reason to smile again. It was a simple act, but it’s a powerful reminder to all of us that kindness wins.
