At just six years old, Andrew’s world was turned upside down when a judge decided his parents could no longer care for him. He was placed in foster care, and over time, his siblings were adopted, leaving him behind. Four years later, at the age of ten, Andrew finally found a home with Dominique and Kevin Gill in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dominique remembers Andrew’s first week with them vividly. He was a small boy filled with big hurt, pushing everyone away. He sat in his room with the door closed, staring at old photos and refusing to talk. He would yell, “Just let me move out!” but Dominique and Kevin were determined not to give up. “We are going to get you together,” Dominique would tell him softly.
Then, a moment that would change everything. The Gills’ son, Joc, walked up to Andrew and asked, “Do you want to play video games?” Andrew simply nodded. From that simple question, a beautiful connection began to form. The two boys quickly became inseparable, and seeing their bond grow, Dominique and Kevin knew what they had to do.
They sat Andrew down and asked him a life-changing question: would he be their son? Overcome with emotion, Andrew burst into tears and said, “Yes. Thank you for accepting me. Thank you for not giving up on me.”
This story reminds us that every child deserves a family that truly loves them. For Andrew, a video game invitation led to a forever family, proving that the greatest love can often be found in the most unexpected places.
