Crotch-grabbing, bird-flipping Mets fan sent over the edge in Mets' blowout win

Mets fans are bringing playoff intensity to blowouts in April.

Although things weren’t close in the Amazin’s 19-5 road win Monday over the Nationals, one Mets fan was especially riled up at the game. As the Mets batted through the order in the seventh inning, Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch in both of his at-bats.

On his second hit-by-pitch, SNY’s broadcast cut to the crowd and gave every viewer the pleasure of seeing an angry Mets fan point, grab his crotch and flip both of his middle fingers all in rapid succession with a bunch of presumably harsh words for the Nationals.

“That might be a record. Think anybody’s been hit by a pitch twice in one inning?” SNY’s play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen said after Lindor was hit. “I mean, that’s like a Fernando Tatís-Chan Ho Park accomplishment, two grand slams in one inning.”

Cohen and his booth partner Daniel Murphy had jokes in the moment, but the fan’s wild reaction paired with the raining boos that could be heard through the broadcast showed that it was anything but humorous for the Mets fans, who made their presence known in the nation’s capital.

Aside from their star getting hit twice in one inning, everything went right for the Mets as runs were certainly not hard to come by.

But Lindor was the lone Met held without a hit in the game — which surely caused further frustration for the fan as Lindor had the chance to do some damage just as the rest of his teammates did.

The Mets improved to an MLB-best 20-9 with the win and now will return home to Citi Field for a three-game series against the Diamondbacks.

The Amazin’s hope to keep the bats hot, and at least one Mets fan is hoping that Arizona’s pitchers keep their fastballs away from his star shortstop.
