“This morning I had some work at a very run down apartment complex on the west side of town. As I was walking back to my vehicle, I noticed a young boy, probably 5 or 6 yrs old waving at me. He was holding a football and had a big smile on his face.
I waved at him and he waved back. He said something to me but I couldn’t hear him clearly. As he got closer, he asked if I would throw the ball with him because he didn’t have anyone else to play with. I was in a rush but I put my stuff down and threw with him for a few minutes. He was lit up with joy and happiness.
I told him I had to leave now and he said ok very sadly. I told him to be careful and if I came back by, I would throw some more with him later. He said in the most pitiful voice, “ Can you bring me some air to fill my ball up because it has no air” I felt compelled to do something for him but didn’t have anywhere I could go to fill up his ball.
Tomorrow I am going to stop by and leave him a new football and an air pump. This little boy didn’t ask for anything except some air and was very thankful for the flat football that he had.”
