The stars of Property Brothers have shared a valuable tip for homeowners while warning them about a deceptive countertop choice, and Drew and Jonathan Scott’s advice is so helpful. The hit reality TV show Property Brothers premiered in 2011 on HGTV and became popular for showcasing high-quality CGI renovation previews and special episodes.
Over the years, the network expanded the franchise into multiple spin-offs, providing Drew and Jonathan with a platform to showcase their diverse skills. Most recently, HGTV released Celebrity IOU season 9, a show that features Drew and Jonathan teaming up with a celebrity to help them renovate homes.
Celebrity IOU season 9 premiered in February 2025 on HGTV, featuring Drew and Jonathan helping celebrities improve the homes of their friends, family members, or mentors. The show featured a strong cast that features some memorable faces. Episodes included celebrities such as Rob Lowe, Andy Garcia, Sarah Silverman, Kyle MacLachlan, Courtney Cox, Goldie Hawn, Shaun White, and more.
Celebrity IOU is very popular among fans because it shows celebrities being themselves in the comfort of their own homes, giving viewers an up-close look at their lives. This makes them more relatable than they are on any other form of media.
Countertops That The Property Brothers Advise to Avoid
Laminate Countertops Should Be Avoided
Drew and Jonathan have been helping homeowners with tips and tricks for the past decade. In an interview with House Digest, they advised fans to avoid laminate countertops at all costs. Jonathan explained that these countertops often appear (and feel) cheaper than others, adding that he couldn’t imagine a situation where laminate would be more appealing than wood or stone.
“It frustrates me to no end when people spend their budget on a product, like laminate, that automatically seems dated — it’s like throwing money away!”
The brothers also suggested that laminate countertops decrease the value of a home and make interiors look dated. They are perceived as being of low quality, and should only be chosen as a last resort.
What Property Brothers Suggest Using Instead
Quartz & Neolith Countertops Are Better
The Property Brothers didn’t leave their fans confused since they also shared their opinions on which countertops are superior to laminate. They recommended Quartz and Neolith as top choices due as they are durable and easy to take care of.
They also praised Marble and Granite for their aesthetically beautiful appearance, despite being more vulnerable to stains and scratches.
The duo also mentioned that Butcher Block countertops can be a good option due to their natural warmth and visual appeal in a living space. Additionally, they advised opting for a matte finish over a glossy one, as this will create a more natural and expensive look.
The Property Brothers Are Launching A New Spin-Off
Chasing the West Is Set For Release In July
The Property Brothers have a sharp skill set, which is why the network has featured them in many shows. Most recently, HGTV announced the launch of its latest Property Brothers spin-off, Chasing the West, a show that follows Drew and Jonathan as they help families move from bustling cities to a ranch.
In addition to helping with the relocation, the brothers will also provide guidance on ranch living. Drawing from their own experiences of living on a horse ranch, the Property Brothers will make the show more nostalgic and personal.
Celebrity IOU airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on HGTV.
